Bonanza updates the Site Search

Bonanza made an incredible change to the site search.. This is just too totally cool.  I happened to be online right after the change was made.  I noticed the left navigation was different and started immediately fiddling around with the new filtering.

The improvement really makes narrowing a search down very easy.

Check out the blog here

They even posted a cool video about how to add Item Traits to listings

Bonanzle Boardroom podcast June 3, 2010 Episode 9

An entire week has passed since the Bonanzle Boardroom podcast June 3, 2010. And I thought it was time to perhaps remind everyone of some of the invaluable information covered in the podcast.

First the changelist..

Bill has been incredibly busy. not only expanding the Bonanzle team but coding more features plus cleaning up bugs in the current system.

Phaedra Stockstill of Bonanzle Boardroom and attheboutique covered the "inside" scoop concerning what is the next big thing on Bonanzle.

Here are Bills comments.

Q:ith all the recent exciting news - Funding, Board of Directors, New Hires - What is the bottom line, What does it mean to the average Joe/Jane seller on Bonanzle?

A:The bottom line is that this is going to enable us to create an environment that allows our sellers to be more successful.

To understand what our future holds, I think it helps to understand what our strategy has been to date, and why that needs to adapt. So far, Bonanzle has succeeded beyond anyone's expectations because we have obsessed over creating the easiest (and most well priced) way to post "everything but the ordinary." Sellers get excited about this, and they tell their friends, and in less than two years we have three million items for sale. And the more merchandise we have, the more juice we get from Google. That has been the basic equation for Bonanzle's success so far.

But it isn't a perfect solution. Many Google visitors have never heard of the site before, and so they convert into sales at a relatively low rate. And if they don't come back, there isn't residual value there. The same principles apply to advertising -- you can buy a visitor, but once they arrive, if they've never heard of the site and can't immediately see how it's different from other sites, there is a relatively low probability that they will buy or that they return.

The offshoot of this is that we have a lot of sellers who make a fair number of sales per month, but we don't have many sellers who can quit other marketplaces and sustain themselves wholly on Bonanzle at this point. We want to change that, so that people can earn enough on Bonanzle alone to sustain their business.

In essence, we believe that the key to taking Bonanzle to the next level lies in earning repeat buyers who visit Bonanzle before search engines or other marketplaces. And the key to that lies in differentiating our buying experience from what a buyer can find elsewhere. For a buyer, it isn't enough just to be "easy," because lots of marketplaces have "easy" buying processes. For buyers, we need to create an experience that is fun, interactive, and catered to their specific tastes.

Frankly, building this experience, and building it right, is going to be one of the hardest projects we've undertaken so far. Which is why we've decided to grow our full time development team from one person (me) to five people. It is going to take a usability tests, creativity, and a lot of horsepower to build something that differentiates itself to buyers from the first click. And, critically, we need to enhance this buying experience while we continue to provide the best marketplace selling experience -- we can't sacrifice a great selling experience for a great buying one. We need both.

That is our goal. Our bottom line objective we're working toward is to make Bonanzle a viable place for the average Joe or Jill to run a hearty, sustainable business by giving buyers an experience they can't find anywhere else."

The next big thing covered was the Google organic algorithm change, referred to as the "Mayday" change.

It isn't as scary as the Bonanzle sellers or any seller imagines actually. The change is actually a good thing. Judy Oglesby of the Bonanzle Boardroom and bluepennyladyaddressed the changes:

Google has been launching changes for the past two years.. AS many as 350 to 400 changes per year. They will continue to make changes. Just a fact of life.

[Quote from Bill] There were a couple changes Google made to its search algorithm last year that sent Bonanzle traffic down quite a bit, but even in those cases, it always came back around. Google's ultimate mission is to show a searcher the most relevant page possible, and if sellers are creating relevant items (i.e., lots of details, good pictures, good prices) they're putting themselves in the best possible position to be highly ranked.

The recent algorithm change is not necessarily a bad thing. In fact, for Bonanzle sellers it can be a very good thing. So look at it as a "can do" This change is about quality links rather than quantity of links.

First , Bonanzle has lots of quality inbound links. Especially recently with the Bootstrap award, $1 Million dollar Angel funding, all the news releasese, press, blogs, tweets as well as interviews with Bill.. All are linking back to the Bonanzle site.

Long tail search queries are going to reduce the garbage being served up in results. The long tail search queries are going to do good things for the Bonanzle sellers right off the bat. Lazy older sites that have not done anything to keep their sites relevant are going to drop off the search results. And bringing the long tail queries into play will clean up search results nicely.

Sites with tons of links on their pages that are totally irrelevant to the site content will also negatively impact those sites rankings. Relevant links are good. It is about quality not quantity now.

Google analyticals enables a seller to "Know" precisely what keywords are being used in search queries to locate their items. That is what impacts the long tail search queries. Keywords in content rich descriptions and title lines are their friend.

If you know what keywords searchers are using then those terms can be included in title lines as well as description fields.

If you don't have Google analyticals, then studying the organic search results will help. Those listings that appear ahead of your listing must be studied so you can determine what consistent thread is running through them in terms of keywords. Same thing we have always done.

Blogs, website pages with inbound quality links all help drive the ranking up. So rather than linking to a listing page, link back to a category in your booth. And then keep that category populated so a searcher doesn't come to the booth and find no items listed. And clicks back out quickly increasing the bounce rate. Keep listing pages clean so they load quickly.Slow loading pages are often penalized... Hence Bill has spent a great deal of time making the Bonanzle site clean and tweaking the page load times.

The Canonical URL's are important. Bill just implemented those recently so google knows what to index when there are multiple URL's such as our booth URL"s have two renditions.

This is not panic time.. OR the sky is falling, This is happy dance time! Bonanzle sellers have a better chance of being seen.. Newer site, fresher well laid out dynamic content with relevant quality links inbound...

Bonanzle Wins Seattle's Best BootStrap company Award

Yes that is right.. Bonanzle won! Seattles Best BootStrap Company Award tonight! Tonight being May 19, 2010!

The event has been recorded and archived at Seattle's 2.0... The Recording is now available. If you do not want to listen to the entire event, just pull the scroller over to 1:50 timeframe. Bill and Mark are on at around 1:52 or so.

Bill made an "Official response" to the Bonanzle Community. In his ever sincere and forward thinking manner, he thanked the community for their support. And he is right,, this changes Bonanzle.. Bonanzle is no longer biggest of small eCommerce sites. But Bonanzle is the smallest of the biggest eCommerce sites. Move over ,,, Bonanzle is coming through!

This is so exciting!

Bonanzle B-Mail includes Body of Message

For those who have patiently (or impatiently) waited, well the wait paid off. This week Bill Harding, CEO of Bonanzle, changed the Bonanzle email notifications. Previously, only a notice of "you have email" was sent out. So the seller had to log into their Bonanzle account and click open the email message just to determine if it was something that required immediate attention.

But now the Bonanzle B-Mail notification includes the full body of the email message in the notification so the recipient can easily see if the email needs immediate attention.

How cool is that!

Today, April 20, 2010 Auctionbytes released an article concerning the Bonanzle site's growth in the past 2 years.

ECMTA Las Vegas Conference April 13-15, 2010

The week has literally flown by! I can't believe it is already Thursday. Ever single day the intentions to sit down to post some of the events have been there, but the time has just escaped.

Phaedra and I bluepennylady met for the very first time on Monday night. Most people did not know that Phaedra and I have worked together on multiple projects including the Bonanzle Boardroom and podcast ...And we got to meet, very first time Monday night ! Very exciting for both of us.

Tuesday our agenda was full with meet-ups with other Bonanzle sellers. Wow, what an experience.

We had lunch with Bonanzle's own baby daddy Bill Harding
. that was totally fun and very enlightening.

So let me embrass Bill to death. I found Bill to be extremely gracious. Not that I expected to find him any other way. Very well spoken and considerate. He is a gentleman. You know, the kind of man that waits for ladies to walk through the door, holds the door open, offers to carry your laptop bag....that kind of man. Which in today's society isn't something you see everyday.

He doesn't miss anything. Even the most random comment. If something pricks his interest, you can see the wheels turning immediately.

I can also say definitively that Bill is constantly looking for ways to improve the Bonanzle site, For sellers and buyers alike. IT isn't just lip service like some people (or sites), it is a true and sincere desire to give the sellers tools/features/functions/exposure they need to succeed while providing the very best buying experience for the buyers.

I was impressed (like that matters :)

More info to come later. After I unwind it from my brain..

Bonanzle Boardroom Episode 7 April 1. 2010

Last night, Thursday, April 1, 2010 was Episode 7 of the Bonanzle Boardroom podcast.

Elizabeth Van Pelt, Anightowl, the newest member of the Bonanzle team joined the podcast. Elizabeth talked about her new responsibilities at the Bonanzle site. Approving and Improving the Item traits for sellers, monitoring payments, and dealing with help file comments as well as category images.

Elizabeth told us that the "job" has been far from part-time. She was a bit taken back by all the bells, whistles, and buttons that she sees on her monitor as one of the Bonanzle team. Thanks for joining us Elizabeth!

MKDesigners
won the Burning Bonanzle question this month. She asked what the top 10 questions since the last podcast in March and how improvements are monitored.

Ever quick to answer, Mark gave us some insight via email. Below is his response.

The process is to search the vote for improvement page, future feature file at support and also requests at each of our email accounts. Bill and I review this as time permits, at the very least once a month.

A couple that come to mind:
Sales Tax integration
Downloadable sales reports
More payment options

The Changelist is long since the last podcast. Here are the highlights covered.

P: 3/11/10
Setup monitoring of sellers with high percentages of negative feedback to be put on probation and/or removed from site.

J: 3/14/10 User profiles now have better preview text in google
And deleted old email YEAH!

P: 3/18/10
Updated offer emails to provide specific details about transactions, link to email other party, etc. Love it! You can now see exactly what sold, the amounts, offer total etc.

P: 3/22/10
Updated offer filter to allow offers to be filtered on the characteristics that buyers and sellers actually use.
Updated offers show page to update aesthetic for the 2010's.
. Now you can use some more interesting filters, such as by payment type. On left are now quick links to offers by title of item sold. Much easier to find what you are looking for.
Fixed description text when posting booths to Facebook. = Now instead of the old post that showed the meta description for your booth itself, it now shows first bit of item description.

J: 3/23/10
Added more advanced detection mechanisms to catch previously suspended sellers signing up.
Added detection of unusual transaction patterns to analyze for potential fraud
http://www.examiner.com/x-27854-Bonanzle-Examiner~y2010m3d15-Bonanzle-marketplace-implements-seller-monitoring?cid=examiner-email

P: 3/28/10
Fixed Craigslist exporter for select Windows users with which it wasn't working.

Again there were lots of good questions and comments. If you missed the podcast or could not log in (the technology gremlins were on the run Thursday) you can still here the podcast.

Bonanzle is growing at such a rapid pace. And as the user base expands so does the demand for support. In answer to the increasing user, Bill announced March 12, 2010a new addition to the Bonanzle tech team, Elizabeth of ANightOwl

Elizabeth joined Bonanzle October of 2008 and is very active on the Bonanzle forums as well as running a successful Bonanzle booth.

According to Bill,

"Elizabeth's initial responsibilities will be helping to approve and improve our item traits, monitoring and enforcing payments, and keeping an eye on site help comments and images submitted for the category page. We also plan to have her dabble in support and other community maintenance tasks as needed."

Elizabeth will start out part-time as Tom did.. Yeah right! With the rapidly increasing Bonanzle user base, I suspect Elizabeth will quickly be seen frequently in the "support" role. So start sending in those emails to see if you can catch one with Elizabeths' name!

A hearty congratulations to you Elizabeth!! No wonder you were walking around for days smiling. what a honor indeed! Welcome aboard!

Bonanzle and the Switchboard

Bill, the Baby Daddy of Bonanzle, has been hard at work programming a really neat feature called the Switchboard.

The Bonanzle switchboard is a ribbon or strip that resides along the lower portion of the browser. The purpose of the switchboard is to group all notifications, quick text messages and other activities into one spot for easier management. For those sellers who have ever lost a quick text message, forgot about a Bonanza or could not remember where that special something was you looked at an hour ago is located, well you will love the switchboard.

For screenshots of the new feature, check the Bonanzle Boardroom out.

Or better yet, checkout your Bonanzle booth Account Settings > Other Options page!

To Mouse or Not to Mouse. That is the Question

Ever wonder what you would do if your PS2 mouse stopped working? How would you shut down your computer?

Save time and steps using these helpful shortcuts without ever taking your hands off the keyboard!

How many times have you watched someone else work on their computer and rarely touch the mouse, wondering the entire time how in the world they do that? Or, you and a co-worker are working on a project together and your co-worker finishes everything much more quickly. They say it is because they know how to use their keyboard shortcuts.

The fact is, we have become so accustomed to using the mouse, we forget we have the ability to use keyboard commands. Keyboard commands are quite useful and often time saving.

Most all windows based programs can be navigated using the keyboard. Placing the cursor over menus often displays the "tool tip" which supplies the keyboard command shortcut as well.

Try using some of the following keyboard shortcut. Try it, you’ll like it!

F1- Opens "Help".

F3 - Finds the next record.

F5 - Refreshes page. In Word or other Windows programs, opens "Find and Replace" or "Go To" utility. F5 will also load email in Outlook Express or WWindows Mail too!

F7- Opens "Spell Checker".

Home - Moves cursor to the beginning of a sentence.

End - Moves cursor to end of sentence.

Insert - Opens or begins a new record.

Page up - Allows you to navigate up through the document you are viewing.

Page Down - Allows you to navigate down through the document you are viewing.

Ctrl+Delete - Deletes the current record you are viewing.

Alt+F4 - Closes an open program.

Alt+Tab – Allows you to switch between open programs/windows.

Ctrl+A - Selects the entire text on the page you are currently viewing.

Ctrl+B - Assigns the text to be in bold font.

Ctrl+C – Copies the information highlighted.

Ctrl+D - Opens the "Default Font and Character Spacing" options in Word.

Ctrl+F - Opens "Find" utility.

Ctrl+G - Opens "Find and Replace, Go to Page Number" box.

Ctrl+H - Opens "Find What" utility.

Ctrl+I – Assigns text to be in italics.

Ctrl+K - Will open the hyperlink utility in Word, Outlook Express and other applicable software programs.

Ctrl+M - Will send and receive mail in Outlook Express. Tab function in Word.

Ctrl+N - Allows you to create a new folder. Opens a new window identical to the currently viewed window. Opens a new email message in Outlook Express.

Ctrl+O - Opens up the available files so that you may choose whatever file you wish to open.

Ctrl+P - Opens the "Print" utility allowing you to create a print job.

Ctrl+S - Will save your work. In some programs the selected text will be stricken out.

Ctrl+U - Assigns text to be underlined.

Ctrl+V - Pastes what you have copied.

Ctrl+X – "Cut" function.

Ctrl+Z - Undo typing.

There are tons more keyboard commands available at the tips of your fingers. Microsoft has a great list of keyboard functions keyboard functions These apply to windows based software.

If you are a Mac Fan, there are Apple shortcuts as well.

Get cozy with your keyboard. You will LOVE IT!

How to commit search suicide..

The ability to be found or seen in search queries is absolutely essential. Keywords, text formatting, attributes all play a part in the formula for search visibility. But there is a foundational concept that sellers often forget. and that is their user id.

I often hear Bonanzle sellers saying that no buyer ever searches for a seller by user id... Is that really what a Bonanzle seller want? To be so "forgettable" that no buyer will ever look for you by name..?? Do the Bonanzle sellers forget to type in "Bonanzle"? When was the last time that you forgot you picked up a great gadget at Bed, Bath and Beyond?. Or that you found a perfect pair of shoes from Zappos.. You know those sellers names. Why do you want to be so "forgettable" that a buyer will not remember you by name?

The first step in committing search suicide is to create a user id that is hard to remember or more effective in your suicide efforts is to use punctuation in the user id such as an apostrophe. Using punctuation such as the apostrophe means a browser will not interpret the apostrophe correctly, most buyers do not know they must use an underscore where the apostrophe is at so it renders correctly. And the seller can't be found by name.

Bonanzle sellers booths are branded quite well. Every listing page URL contains the seller's user id right in the address bar. Keep that important little tidbit tucked away for a minute. As it is extremely relevant to committing search suicide quickly and efficiently.

The sellers decides they have made a grave mistake with their user id. Let's change it. No worries, easy to do. contact support, and voila' user id changed. Life is all good. Or is it. we won't even talk about how the user id change can impact business identity, marketing and your bottom line. We will talk about what happens to all those booth items that are already published to google shopping.

So the seller hops over to Google shopping, types in their user id,, and no items are served up.. Great all items associated with the previous user id are gone from Google shopping. Or are they?

Remember the little tidbit about the Bonanzle listing page URL containing the seller's user id... Well on Google shopping the marketplace name must be displayed underneath the price. But the Bonanzle booth URL allows each seller to be branded hence someone can find a particular seller by user id. So it looks like all the sellers product is gone because the seller's user id is changed.

But use item title line search. And well I'll be. There is the item. So the seller presumes their items are in google shopping new user id and all. If the title is clicked,, an Item not found in inventory " error appears. oops, broken link which is a google product policy violation. And the seller just committed search suicide. Until the old listings that are associated with the former user id are either removed by the uploader OR expire in 30 days so a new xml file containing the seller's New user id can be uploaded, the seller can't be found.

There are definitely correct circumstances to change a seller id. But make the changes slowly. Take into consideration all aspects such as all the blogs you are connected with, twitter, facebook, squidoo and how the change impacts google shopping results. Otherwise you will be committing search suicide.

The Land of Slackness

Looking at the Land of Slackness

Slackness is defined as wanting in activity, not using due diligence or care, lacking in completeness or not tight or taunt as in a slack rope.

Slackness is a mentality that attaches itself to a majority of businesses, be it large companies or individual sellers. And slackness will take a toll on your business's bottom line.

So how does slackness affect online sellers? Technically speaking everyone knows that Google (as well as other search engines) likes fresh content. So the business or seller has filled up their Bonanzle booth , their individual websites, eBay Store or other venue of their choice with all these new goodies. Google is in love with them for the first 60 days or so. Then views/hits start to slide.

What to do to stop the sliding? Introduce new content to Google and the other search engines. How do you do that if you have all your inventory online already?

Answer -- Pull older items offline for at least 24 hours.. 72 is better. Then the item can be listed again. Good til Cancelled (GTC) listings can be death of your traffic hits from outside search engines. The content becomes old. Since the item never "ends" it simply drops off to pages and pages back. Never to be seen. Pulling items down every 30 days or so and leaving them offline for a minimum of 24 hours gives you----

Fresh content.. Is it work.. yes it is. But being in business is work. Anyone selling something will tell you the merchandise must be re-faced on the shelves periodically. OR even moved to a new spot. Internet sales are absolutely no different. Sellers like to think they can simply put up product never to touch it again. That thinking is from the "Land of Slackness" Lacking in activity.

Technically speaking, if you want your items to be new and fresh, slackness won't work. Tow a tight rope in your business model. Introduce fresh content frequently!

Typical eBay day

TheBrewsNews had an interesting article on their website about a typical eBay day for most any eBay seller.

The hard to navigate eBay site creating an extremely difficult task to try and communicate with uneducated buyers is sometimes almost overwhelming. Checkout system is difficult seasoned buyers never mind new buyers. Contacting a buyer can be anything but easy.

Now eBay has been sending out surveys to a select group of sellers inquiring about how sellers would best like to see fees. Insertion as well as Final value fees. And we all know that anytime eBay starts polling with surveys, there are changes on the way.

Take a look at the great article TheBrewsNews wrote about their typical Monday morning dealing with buyers. Any eBay seller will be quite familiar with the scenarios

How Time Flies

In a few weeks will mark the two year anniversary of when our oldest twin son took an 18 foot fall headfirst from the iron on a building he was erecting, nearly claiming his life.

The road to recovery has had its challenges. He is a walking miracle. I see our son returning to his "old self". That same sparkle in his eye is back. That disarming from the heart kind of smile is there. But what is totally cool is some of the "Brain" things are working again.

Prior to the fall, he use to be able to calculate in his head faster than you could run numbers on a calculator. Do complex mathematical calculations on the jobsite without pen or paper. That was lost in the fall. But the other day, he stood in our living room, talking to his dad about a roofing job and how much foam material they would need. Without even noticing, he stood there and ran the job numbers in his head, told his dad the square footage, how thick the foam needed to be and broke it down into the kits needed.

I couldn't hardly keep the tears back. Several months ago he would have had to sit down with pen and paper to do that.

He was my coffee drinking buddy. He would come by most mornings real early and grap coffee on his way to a jobsite (if he was in town). He lost his taste for coffee as well as lots of foods he use to love. The taste for coffee is returning. Now, he comes by and graps a cup. Did that yesterday. Hearing his travel mug crack open and the pot pouring coffee makes my heart so thankful. I will make 100 pots of coffee for him. God is so good.!

Now if we can just get him to eat broccoli again!

Google Base Webinar Postponed

Based on the Google Base announcement, Phaedra from attheboutique and I, bluepennylady, decided we better postpone the Google Base webinars.

Google Base announced they were going to require marketplaces, such as Bonanzle and eBayto upload seller's items on their behalf to Google Base. The deadline for the change over is December 1, 2009

You can read the announcement at Google Base Blog

In order to provide the attendees with the most relevant information, it is necessary to postpone.

Wednesday, September 02, 2009

I am so excited I can't hardly stand it. Phaedra Stockstill from attheboutique on Bonanzle has asked me to join forces with her and teach a Google Base webinar.

The webinar is in two Parts. September 10 is Part 1 where we will cover the "How to" setup a Google Base account correctly. So many people do not understand how to configure their account or even what the settings mean. It will be at 7 pm CDT/8pm EDT.

Go here to read more or sign up for Part 1

Part 2 is on September 17 at the same time. 7pm CDT/8pm EDT. We will look at the Dashboard, how to read the performance details as well as making sense of Impressions and clicks.

For more information on Part 2

There is a discount for purchasing both classes at once.

don't miss out on this opportunity. Plus there will be a Q&A at the end of the webinar.

Look forward to seeing you!

Web-based Auction Management tools versus Computer-Based

Over the past few days the Auctiva website was infected with a Trojan. Auctiva users could not safely log into their accounts to manage their listings. And the buyers could not pay for items purchased.

Here is a link to an article at AuctionBytes..

Trojan Infects Auctiva

This exact scenario is one of the reasons I stay away from web-based applications. Had I been an Auctiva user, my anti virus software would not even allow me to navigate to the site, so I could not have managed a single listing for over four days.

Now I realize my own computer network could be attacked. Anyone could be. But putting my sensitive information on another site whose security could not be up to par isn't something I even don't want to think about.

I will just stick with my computer based Auction management software that I have used for years. Auction Wizard 2000

If the internet is down, doesn't matter I can continue putting in information for auctions, editing images or whatever I want to do on my computer. And I don't have to store any of my passwords or financial information on a site out there that is high profile and could easily be attacked, gleaning my information..

No waiting for a browser page to load so I can add/edit images, add description text or all the other tasks that must be done in order to manage auctions. It is on my computer and moves as fast as my computer does.

Nope, I will stay with computer based Auction management software.

Selling on Bonanzle

Hi, all,

Well I finally took the plunge and took a look at Bonanzle Great Place! Super easy to setup a booth (that is where you sell your stuff).

I set up my booth in about 5 minutes. Take a look.

bluepennylady's booth

A few mouse clicks and you are done, literally.. Site is easy to navigate and easy to understand.

Have a question, a real live human being responds. One who has read your email and responds appropriately instead of an automated non-response that doesn't help one bit.

Bonanzle will import your eBay store listings. And you can either leave them as they are or elect to Batch edit. The default Item condition at Bonanzle is "Used" so if you sell "new" stuff, you'll need to batch edit and change the item condition appropriately.

Creating a listing at Bonanzle is incredibly easy and fast. Takes about 45 seconds to list something. Their form is one page instead of the slow loading, numerous page, hard to work with Sell your Item form on eBay.

Bonanzle also provides each seller with a google base xml file. I have uploaded the xml file twice to my new google base account created specifically for Bonanzle. Not one single missing attribute or condition. I didn't do a thing to the xml file other than save it to my hard drive and manually uploaded it. Slick as a whistle.

What does it cost you ask? Well I was surprised. Listing is free. You pay Final Value fees. But they are much less than anywhere else I have checked out.
What does it cost to sell at Bonanzle?

According to my booth statistics, the first three days my bluepennylady's booth was open, the traffic was as high or higher than my
bluepennylady eBay store
And although not a landslide business, I have sold two items in the first three days. It only cost me $1.00 instead of $7.20 as it would have on eBay.

Now don't get me wrong, I am not slamming eBay. My bluepennylady eBay store generates alot of traffic. And eBay still provides a pretty good bang for your buck. But there are some New kids on the block and I think they might be quite serious about their online Auction site.

So you might ought to consider checking the Bonanzle site out.. It is looking pretty good!

How to Treat your eBay Business as a Business

On September 17, 2008 at 12 noon Pacific time, Phyllis Wischer of SageFire will be presenting a workshop at eBay on the subject of "How to Treat your eBay Business as a Business.

I had the opportunity to hear Phyllis speak at the Rocketplace conference in Las Vegas this past week on September 12, 2008. What an excellent seminar! Phyllis is an excellent speaker, energetic and entertaining. But the most important part is she knows what she is talking about.

The IRS is making changes which will affect many online businesses including eBay sellers. So be sure to sign up for this workshop.

Thankful Christmas

Hi, All,
I haven't posted anything in a very long time. Not much at writing. But this past 2007 Christmas was without a doubt the best Christmas we have ever had. Ever! Reason--we celebrated a home coming instead of a funeral.
On December 18, 2007 I had just left town to head to ST Louis, Mo. My sister was having a major surgery. I was following my parents up to be with my sister and her husband for the surgery. As I pulled onto to I-44 my cellphone rang. It was my husband. As soon as I answered, I knew something was terribly wrong. My husband is a rock.. He never gets rattled. From the tone in his voice, I knew it was serious. I whipped my truck over on the shoulder of the road and asked what had happened. My husband's response, "I have to tell you something. And it is bad."
Our oldest twin son owns a construction company. He erects steel buildings. He had just climbed up on the iron, harness on, lanyard in place, he slipped and fell 18 feet headfirst onto a concrete slab. Wasn't good news. He was in critical condition and was being life flighted back to the trauma center. The town he was working in is small without a big hospital. And they were not equipped for this type of injury.
It was a nerve racking drive back to the hospital. My husband and I met up with our son's wife. Called our son's twin brother and our daughter. My parents both came straight back. Our pastor and his wife came with us to the hospital.
Five long hours in surgery with four specialists to put our son back together. Amazingly and miraculously, no brain damage,, No nerve damage. Skull fracture, broken nose, both arms broke as well as one shoulder. broken eye socket. Neck broken in 6 places. But not one thing wrong below his armpits. Not even a scratch. Broken neck doctor said was no big deal. Broke the outside of the vertebra so no worries there. Jaw broken in three places which meant mouth wired shut.
Two days in ICU. Four days on the regular floor... And our son came home on Christmas Eve. That was his only wish. Come home for Christmas and be with his family.
The doctors have told us repeatedly we are seeing a miracle, God's hand at work. Today I received a call from our daughter in law. All she said was someone wants to talk to you. It was our son. A full 2-1/2 weeks early the doctor removed the wires from his mouth. I could understand him over the phone. What a great call!
The gifts around the Christmas tree this year seemed nothing in comparison to having our son resting on the sofa.
Yes, this was the best Christmas. We celebrated a home coming and not a funeral. Thank the Lord!

Guess what bluepennylady found!

We bought out a sporting goods store to liquidate. Semi arrived at the store. Boxes were unpacked. In the bottom of one box was a framed document. The glass had been broken in transit. So we laid it to one side to work on later. After a bit of research, we discovered that it is a NY Knights Roy Hobbs contract signed by him and someone else from the cast of "The Natural" Now isn't that just the neatest thing ever! Has Roy Hobbs name on it in blue ink. We think the thing is authentic.. Not totally sure but sure looks like it. Regardless, we sure thought it was really a special thing to find something like this.

You just never know what bluepennylady will get in to liquidate.
